Joseph L. Mathias Monuments: Your FAQs Answered

  • What is the process for selecting and ordering a cemetery memorial?

At Joseph L. Mathias Monuments, our process begins with a personal consultation—either in our Westminster display yard, by phone, or via appointment. We guide you through choosing the right memorial style, such as upright, slant, bevel, flush, or bench, and selecting premium materials like Rock of Ages granite or bronze. Our experts help design the layout and inscription, ensuring your wishes and cemetery regulations are met. Production and installation are handled entirely in-house, providing a seamless, compassionate experience from start to finish.

  • Do I need an appointment to visit your Westminster location?

Walk-ins are always welcome during our regular business hours, Monday–Thursday (9am–5pm) and Friday (9am–4pm). However, to ensure that a memorial sales counselor can provide you with dedicated, timely service—especially for evenings and weekends—scheduling an appointment is highly recommended. This allows us to answer your questions in detail and guide you through our on-site display yard, where you can view and select stones available for immediate purchase.

  • What areas do you serve for monument sales and installation?

We are proud to serve families and organizations in Westminster, Carroll County, Baltimore, Frederick, and throughout Maryland. Our coverage extends to Southern Pennsylvania, Northern Virginia (including the DC metro area), Eastern West Virginia, and Washington D.C. We do not currently serve Delaware. Our team is familiar with local cemetery requirements in each region, ensuring compliance and a smooth installation process wherever your needs are.

  • What types of memorials and materials are available?

Our offerings include traditional upright monuments, slant and bevel markers, flush and bronze markers, benches, mausoleums, cremation memorials, and custom plaques. We feature premium granites such as Rock of Ages Sealmark Blue Gray, Black Mist, American Red, Vermont Gray, Laurentian Rose, Imperial Rose, Mahogany, and Standard Gray, as well as specialized marble and bronze options. Our on-site display yard in Westminster allows you to experience the look and feel of each material before making a decision.

  • What ongoing care and maintenance services do you provide?

Joseph L. Mathias Monuments offers comprehensive aftercare, including on-site engraving (lettering), professional cleaning, and expert repair for existing monuments. These services help preserve the appearance and structural integrity of your memorial for generations. While pricing is tailored to each project’s specifics, we invite you to contact us for a personalized quote. Our team is equipped to handle even historic stones and government-issued veteran memorials in need of restoration.

  • Can you assist families of all faiths and languages?

Yes. Our team is committed to inclusivity, with experience designing memorials for families of all faiths and backgrounds. We work closely with you to honor cultural and religious traditions, and we accommodate requests in multiple languages. We also offer guidance on symbols, wording, and custom artwork to ensure every tribute is both meaningful and respectful of your family’s heritage.

  • How do I know my memorial will last for generations?

With over 120 years of experience, we use only the highest-quality materials, such as Rock of Ages granite, and proven craftsmanship techniques. Our legacy, BBB accreditation, and Rock of Ages Pinnacle Award all testify to our commitment to enduring quality. We also provide expert guidance on selecting designs and finishes that best withstand the elements, ensuring your loved one’s memory is preserved for centuries.

  • What are your pricing and payment options for memorials?

Due to the bespoke nature of our memorials, pricing varies depending on material, size, design complexity, and installation location. We offer options to suit a range of budgets and can provide a detailed price guide or custom quote upon request. Payment plans may be available. For current pricing, please call or schedule an appointment with one of our memorial counselors.
